What the evidence actually supports
The early-2000s studies that found higher contaminants in farmed salmon have not held up as feed has changed. Recent analyses (including Norwegian government monitoring) find dioxins, PCBs, and mercury are often three times higher in WILD Atlantic salmon — with both types sitting well below safety limits. Wild has a genuine edge on the fatty-acid ratio and farming concerns; farmed wins on cost and access. Partly. Wild salmon gets its pink from astaxanthin in its natural diet (krill, etc.). Farmed salmon is given astaxanthin in feed to achieve the same color — it's the same compound, not an artificial dye, though the practice is why farmed color can be standardized.

Myth"You need raw or rare salmon to get the omega-3s."
